Santa Claus will be on parade in Okotoks this evening.
Santa’s Christmas Eve Parade, a holiday staple for more than two decades, will see St. Nick take an expansive route throughout town on the evening of Dec. 24 courtesy of Okotoks emergency services.
The annual parade will depart from Fire Station No. 1 at 132 Milligan Dr. at 5 p.m. and tour pretty much every neighbourhood in town over the next three hours.
Santa will ride atop a 1956 antique fire engine and will be joined in the procession by other emergency services, including the RCMP and Okotoks Municipal Enforcement.
The parade traces its roots back to 2001 when, as the story goes, Santa lost his way in town, so he stopped by the fire department and asked for a guided tour of Okotoks. The fire department, with the help of the RCMP, obliged, and a tradition was born.
