A lightning strike is the suspected cause of an outage that left thousands of people without power in the Okotoks area last night.
A FortisAlberta spokesperson said the power outage occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on June 27.
Approximately 7,600 customers were affected, and the likely cause was determined to be a lightning strike, Fortis said. Power was restored by 12:30 a.m. on June 28.
Information about the location of the lightning strike or what equipment was impacted was not available.
Earlier in the day, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Okotoks region and there was heavy rain with strong wind overnight.
