There’s a new wrinkle for this year’s Hike for Hospice.
The eighth annual event, a day of community, compassion and camaraderie in support of Foothills Country Hospice that’s set for Sunday, May 5, has added a five-kilometre run to its usual two- and five-kilometre hike routes.
Foothills Country Hospice events coordinator Lindsey Dunham said organizers are excited to add the Hospice Hustle to the day’s activities.
"By introducing the new chip-timed 5k run to our event, we're not only filling a gap in Okotoks' running scene, but we're also fostering a space where every step taken supports our mission of compassionate care for all," Dunham said.
The run and hike routes wind along the scenic Sheep River paved pathways in Okotoks, and are wheelchair-, stroller- and dog-friendly.
The event that supports end-of-life care in the Foothills region will include activities, food and fun in addition to the run and hike.
"Our goal of raising $60,000 isn't just a number, it's a lifeline for those in need,” said Dunham. “Every dollar counts, bringing us closer to ensuring essential end-of-life care for our community.”
She said funds raised will directly impact the lives of those in the community facing life-limiting illnesses.
