A Claresholm RCMP member has escaped with minor injuries after a semi took out his cruiser Friday.
At approximately 12:15 p.m. May 19, a press release from RCMP stated the officer was conducting a traffic stop on the northbound lanes of Highway 2 near Stavely in his marked RCMP SUV with lights activated.
A semi travelling in the same direction failed to move left and hit the police vehicle. The officer was standing at the driver's side door of the vehicle he had pulled over as the semi struck, and as a result he suffered minor injuries from flying debris.
The owner of the stopped vehicle was uninjured, but his vehicle did sustain damage.
As of 3:30 p.m., an RCMP collision reconstructionist was at the scene and traffic delays can be expected as the investigation continues.
