Snow Angels in short supply this year

The Town of Okotoks has more residents requesting snow shoveling assistance this year than available volunteers.

The Town of Okotoks is looking for volunteer Snow Angels to help clear sidewalks and driveways for those who are unable to shovel snow themselves this winter.

Snow Angels are urgently needed for the Town of Okotoks’ Adopt a Sidewalk program.

“We already have more residents requesting snow shoveling assistance this year than available volunteers,” says Laura Padget, Family Resource Centre specialist. “Unless more Snow Angels sign up, residents who rely on the Adopt a Sidewalk program will be left without the support they so desperately need.”

Getting around in winter can be tough for many — particularly those with mobility issues. The Adopt a Sidewalk program offers volunteer snow removal for eligible seniors and those with permanent disabilities.

By signing up to be a Snow Angel, a volunteer will be matched with a resident for the winter season and will shovel as needed to keep their driveway and sidewalk clear. Whenever possible, the Adopt a Sidewalk program pairs volunteers with residents near their neighbourhood.

The Town says the program is a great way to get exercise, while helping others in the community.
