A familiar name in Okotoks is celebrating 45 years in the community.

Bow Mark Paving has been involved in thousands of projects throughout Okotoks since it was founded in 1979 as a family business.

"With Okotoks growing and the Foothills growing, we've been expanding along with it," said president Sean McArthur, son of founders Bob and Gail McArthur.

Bow Mark specializes in road building, asphalt paving, concrete and project management, and is expanding to include larger construction projects like infrastructure, new subdivision, multifamily and commercial work.

"We started in Okotoks and we've always been in Okotoks," said McArthur.

Now employing over 130 staff, the local business has come a long way since its humble beginnings. It's more than doubling its office space to manage growth, which includes moving from its current 7,800-square-foot building to one under construction that will measure more than 20,000 square feet with five equipment bays on five acres.

Over the last four-and-a-half decades, the company has worked across the Calgary area and southern Alberta, with projects stretching from as far north as Airdrie to all the way down to Waterton.

Even as the company grows, Okotoks remains its main focus.

"Local support is key here," said McArthur. "Everything we do is for local."

The company has maintained a significant presence in the Okotoks community, including as the title sponsor of the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers U18 AAA hockey team as well as supporting other teams such as the Okotoks Dawgs, Okotoks Oilers and Carstar Okotoks Bisons.

Bow Mark has consistently been recognized as a business leader in Okotoks, including numerous Western Wheel Readers’ Choice Awards and being named Business of the Year at the Okotoks Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards in 2015.
