The Town of Okotoks is looking for input as it develops a tourism strategy.

The Town of Okotoks has set up several opportunities for members of the public to provide input on a new tourism strategy.

The Town is developing a tourism plan that aims to boost the local economy, support small businesses and celebrate everything that makes Okotoks a great place to live and visit.

"Tourism has the power to strengthen our local economy, create jobs and highlight what makes Okotoks such a special place," said Jeff Greene, director of community growth and identity for the Town of Okotoks. "By building on our strengths and gathering fresh ideas from the community, we can develop a tourism strategy that benefits everyone."

Public input opportunities are as follows:

• There will be a facilitated session for young adults (17-24 years) at the Bow Valley College Okotoks campus on Monday, April 14 from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

• A community session will be held at the Okotoks & District Seniors Club on Tuesday, April 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.

• There will be pop-up events, where residents can drop by to share their thoughts on tourism, at the Okotoks Public Library on Wednesday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to noon and at the Okotoks Recreation Centre on Thursday, April 17 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Input is being sought to ensure the tourism strategy reflects the character, values and voices of Okotoks residents.

Please change the color of the Okotoks letters to green since we live in the foothills.
May not attract more tourism but would suit the area better. Blue really?

Is the City paying for this or is there an association or business levy that's paying 'Strategy"? I have never heard of any other "strategies" for Dentists, Barbers or many other businesses.

The 2024 figures so far (from the first nine months of the year) suggest Alberta will break its record for annual international visitor spending, established in 2023 at $12.7 billion – which was already a nearly 20 per cent jump from the previous record.

“There has never been a better time to invest in tourism in Alberta, as the industry drives export revenues, fuels job creation, strengthens local businesses and showcases the province’s incredible natural and cultural assets to the world,” said Jon Mamela, the chief commercial officer at Travel Alberta, in a provincial news release.

The provincial government says its plan is to grow Alberta’s visitor economy to $25 billion by 2035.

How much $$$$ do you think gets dropped into the city when a hockey or baseball tournament comes to town?
