VIDEO: Okotoks liquor store suffers nighttime burglary

Around $2,000 worth of high-end liquor as well as cash stolen from Southridge Drive store.

Police are on the lookout for thieves that left a local liquor store out thousands.

Maco Liquor, located at 200 Southridge Dr. in Okotoks, was the victim of a burglary just before 2 a.m. on Nov. 22.

According to the store, expensive bottles of liquor totalling about $2,000 were stolen along with an undetermined amount of cash.

"They took bottles, six or seven, and those all are high-end," said store manager Preeti Pawar. "One of those was very old, like [21 years] old."

Footage of the robbery, available below, was shared on social media — and deleted afterwards — by another Maco Liquor store manager.

The indoor camera footage depicts one masked burglar carrying the store's cash register out while another grabs bottles off the shelves. The entire incident lasted around one minute.

Pawar believes the burglars took advantage of the day's snowfall and poor road conditions to pull off the theft before officers could respond to the store's security system sounding the alarm.

"Roads were not good, and they took an advantage because it was the first snow, the roads were so bad they knew that police cannot reach in time," she said.

She's thankful nobody was hurt and that, while some bottles were broken, no major damage was done to the store.

"We're going to talk with the property owner. We need more security here," she said.

"Nowadays it's happening even in Okotoks," she continued. "Before I hadn't heard about Okotoks incidents but now every year I'm hearing something... I don't know why, but the town is expanding, people are coming from anywhere."

According to an RCMP spokesperson, the matter remains under investigation. Four suspects in a white pickup truck are wanted by the police, and no suspects have been identified at this time.
