The Western Wheel hit it big in the 2023 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards.
The Wheel received four awards in the nationwide competition, including second place for Best All-Round Newspaper in its circulation class.
The Wheel also earned second place for Best Editorial Page and third place for Best Front Page.
Canada Day Celebrations in the Foothills, a two-page photo spread featuring images taken by Brent Calver, Remy Greer and Robert Korotyszyn, received third place for Best Photo Essay.
“These awards are a tribute to the talent and hard work of our editorial team,” said Wheel publisher Shaun Jessome. “It’s heartening to see their efforts once again recognized in this national competition.”
The annual awards program features 27 unique categories honouring outstanding editorial, photography, multimedia and overall excellence in community newspaper publishing. The 2023 winners were selected from 798 entries for work published in 2022.
The awards celebrate the best in community publishing from across the country. Newspapers of similar circulation size compete against each other and are judged by a panel of industry experts.
