The most popular dog names in Okotoks don’t stray much from the top names in other places across the country.
With 4,584 licensed dogs in Okotoks at year end, the three most common canine names are Charlie, Luna and Bella.
According to the American Kennel Club, Luna and Bella are the top two names for female dogs in North America, while Charlie comes in at fourth place for male dogs behind Milo, Max and Teddy.
Recent bylaw changes mean dog licences are no longer required in Okotoks as of Jan. 1.
The Town said its dog licensing program was designed to help reunite lost pets with their owners, but due to the widespread use of micro-chips, tattoos and social media to find lost pets, the program is no longer needed.
Instead, dogs in Okotoks are required to wear visible identification on a collar or harness with the owner’s phone number.
