Okotoks tied for top-spot halfway through round-robin

The herd is perched atop the standings halfway through round-robin at the Junior B provincials.

The Okotoks Carstar Bisons and Calgary Rangers are 2-0 and the only undefeated teams remaining through two days of competition at the Hockey Alberta Junior B Provincial Championships at the Okotoks Centennial Arenas with two more games left to determine those moving through to the medal round.

Okotoks opened its account by knocking off the defending provincial champion Fort St. John Huskies 5-4 in the tournament icebreaker for both teams on April 5.

Boogie Blackwater, AJ Belanger, Scott Brown, Brayden Kapty and Adam Kirkpatrick scored for Okotoks in the seesaw contest.

The Bisons then blanked the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 4-0 on April 6.

Blackwater, Brown and Kirkpatrick scored their second goals in as many games with Ethan MacIntyre adding a third-period insurance marker.

Dylan Fries stopped all 20 shots for the shutout against the Heritage Junior Hockey League finalists.

Okotoks and Calgary are tied for first at 2-0, the Wainwright Bisons and Sherwood Park Knights are 1-1 with both Sylvan Lake and Fort St. John at 0-2.

Day three of the competition, April 7, sees Wainwright versus Fort St. John, Sylvan Lake against Calgary and, in the finale at 7 p.m., Okotoks takes on Sherwood Park.

The Bisons close their round-robin action on Saturday, April 8 against Wainwright, a 2:30 p.m. puck drop.

The top-four teams through four days of action advance to the bronze and gold medal games at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, on April 9.
