Jady Shigehiro and the Carstar Okotoks Bisons had a 2-0 road trip with wins over Cochrane and Medicine Hat on Oct. 18, 19 to climb back into top spot in the Heritage Junior Hockey League South Division standings.

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons are back in a familiar position.

A two-win road weekend over a pair of South Division rivals in Cochrane and Medicine Hat on consecutive nights has Okotoks, three-time defending Heritage Junior Hockey League champions, back on top of the standings.

On Friday, Henry Pahl opened the scoring for the Cochrane Generals at the 8:23 mark of the opening frame, but it was all Bisons from there.

Sam Callahan, Joel Burrows, Adam Kirkpatrick, Ty Russell, McCallum Bakken and Jakob Semeniuk tickled the twine in the 6-1 result. Burrows, a first-year Bison from High River, notched his first point with Okotoks with the second period tally.

Russell, Callahan, Semeniuk and Zephyr Laplante had multi-point efforts in the victory.

Connor White, an 18-year-old from Strathmore, made a sterling debut in goal for the herd with 30 saves on 31 shots.

White, who backstopped the Okotoks U17 AAA Oilers to a provincial gold medal in 2023, made it two wins in as many nights with 17 saves in the 4-1 result in Medicine Hat.

Callahan added two goals, bringing his total to 10 on the season, with blueliner Caden Scott and Laplante then adding the insurance markers on Saturday.

This week, Okotoks will shoot for its fifth straight win against South Division opposition.

The Bisons host the Coaldale Copperheads on Oct. 25, an 8 p.m. start at the Murray Arena, followed by an Oct. 26 road date with the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, a rematch of the league championship in the spring.
