Sydney Libbus, the second for Team Claire Booth, is competing at the 2025 Alberta Women’s Curling Championship in Rimbey from Jan. 22-26.

It’s provincial week for a Diamond Valley curler in central Alberta.

Sydney Libbus and Team Claire Booth charge into the 2025 Curling Alberta Women’s Provincial Championship Jan. 22-26 at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre in Rimbey.

The Ellerslie Curling Club rink features Booth at skip, Jamie Scott at third, Libbus at second, Sophie Brissette at lead and alternate Morgan Muise and is coached by Mike Libbus, Sydney’s father.

Among the 12 teams at provincials include the 2023 champions Team Kayla Skrlik, coached by Okotokian Shannon Kleibrink, and two-time Canadian junior champions Team Myla Plett.

The field also includes Robyn Silvernagle, a three-time provincial winning skip in Saskatchewan, who now curls out of Sexsmith.

One thing is clear, there will be a new champion crowned in Rimbey.

The reigning titleholders Team Selena Sturmay earned direct entry to the 2025 Scotties, the national championships next month in Thunder Bay, as the replacement for Team Chelsea Carey.

Team Booth qualified through the Jasper Place playdowns last month with a 5-2 record.

Libbus will be looking to add to a recent string of provincial championships from Okotoks and area curlers with Alena Yurko skipping her team to the U18 Alberta title earlier in the month.

Games will be live-streamed on Curling Alberta’s YouTube page.
