Rocky Mountain Raiders, Okotoks Oilers teams medal at southern Alberta tournament

Okotoks female hockey shone bright under the spotlight of a classic over the weekend.

Thirteen local teams competed as part of the 2024 Okotoks Female Hockey Classic with four hometown squads bringing home a medal from the Nov. 15-17 tournament.

The Rocky Mountain Raiders skated to the gold medal in the U13 AA division and did so in dominant fashion, scoring an 8-0 victory in the gold medal game over B.C.'s Vernon Lakers at the Viking Rentals Centre.

The Raiders were undefeated over four games, outscoring their opposition by a combined margin of 21-3.

The Okotoks Oilers earned silver medals in the U18 A, U15 A and U13 B divisions.

The 17th annual tournament featured for the first time the U18 AA Rocky Mountain Raiders, who just missed out on the medal round with a record of 1-2.

All told, 48 squads from Canada's three westernmost provinces took part in the event in 11 divisions spread out over five age groups. The tournament took place at the Viking Rentals Centre, Okotoks Recreation Centre and Scott Seaman Sports Rink.
