The Foothills Falcons and Strathcona-Tweedsmuir Spartans, pictured in the Foothills Athletic Council league final earlier this month, both won silver at the South Central Zone boys volleyball championships in 4A and 2A, respectively.

A pair of Okotoks teams found the zone to a silver medal over the weekend.

The Foothills Athletic Council senior boys volleyball champions and finalists both claimed silver with the competition moving to the zone stage with the Foothills Falcons and Strathcona-Tweedsmuir Spartans bringing home South Central Zone medals over the weekend.

Unfortunately for both, it won’t be enough to qualify to the next stage.

The Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association Provincial Volleyball Championships allocate wild card berths to go along with the zone champions, but none of those went to the South Central region.

STS was edged out by Acme in the 2A final in Three Hills. The Oilfields Drillers finished fourth at the same competition.

In Airdrie, the FAC champion Foothills Falcons also took second with the host W.H. Croxford Cavaliers corralling the 4A zone title. The Holy Trinity Academy Knights earned bronze.

In the girls zone finals, the Falcons claimed bronze with Croxford and George McDougall adding the other podium finishes.

The Drillers hosted the 2A girls zone finals over the weekend which saw the STS Spartans, the FAC champions, claim bronze behind Morrin and Drumheller.

The ASAA provincials at all levels run Nov. 21-23.
