May 9, 1945 - September 10, 2024

Commemorating a life well-lived, and a courageous battle fought with
cancer, we share the news of Diane Antoniuk’s peaceful passing. She was
an inspiration to all who knew her till the last moments of her life. Diane
passed away at the Oilfields General Hospital on the evening of Tuesday,
September 10, 2024, after outliving predictions and enjoying every moment,
until her will to do so was no longer enough.

Diane was born by a wood-burning stove in a one room house in Sawdy, AB,
on May 9, 1945, and grew up as the eldest daughter of homesteaders Mike
and Annie Rypien with three siblings. Throughout her life Diane embraced
excellence. She loved books, gardening, cooking fantastic food, live music,
the company of friends and most of all - hiking or climbing to “the high
places” of the world. After realizing that her longtime friend, Les Antoniuk,
was the love of her life, she married in late December 1976.

Upon retiring, Diane lived a rich life singing with the Diamond Valley choir,
volunteering at the Sheep River Library, and the Rising Sun Long Term Care
facility, playing bridge, hiking with the Tuesday Hiking Group, doing activities
with the Valley Neighbours Club, participating in book clubs, and growing a
beautiful garden. Diane and Les also worked as qualified tour guides in the
Rocky Mountain parks, acted in the occasional play, had musical evenings
with friends, and spent much time enjoying each other’s company while
travelling the world together.

Diane is survived by her loving husband Les Antoniuk, devoted daughter
Terri Smith (Wallace), her grandson L.J. Smith, her sister Lois Carnell (Brian),
and brother Don Rypien (Janet). She was predeceased by her brother John
Rypien (Gwen).

A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
