Our dear Mother, Doris (Nanny/Mémé)
Emmeline Yvonne Harding (maiden Burgess),
92, of Black Diamond, passed away peacefully
on March 5, 2025, having lived a full and
vibrant life.

Born on June 24, 1933 to parents Harry
and Mercedes (maiden Gautier), in Saint
Maxime, France, Doris cherished childhood
memories of her mother’s cooking and the
joys of family-though her early years were
also shaped by the hardships of war. During
the Nazi occupation, her mother, determined to
keep her safe, sent her to live in a monastery.
This time in her life left a lasting impression,
inspiring her famously sharp eye when it
came to evaluating the future spouses of her
grandchildren-a testament to her protective
and spirited nature.

After the war, fate stepped in at a dance, where
a charming English sailor, Nigel Harding, swept
her off her feet. He was the great love of her
life, and our family takes solace in knowing
they are now reunited. Doris and Nigel married
on March 24, 1952, in Folkestone, England,
embarking on a lifetime of adventure. From
England to Kansas City, and eventually settling
in Canada in 1974, they built a home filled with
love, laughter, and a warm welcome for all.

Doris is survived by her children, Linda (Brian),
Mark (Kelly), and Monique (Gord, deceased), as
well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
and a great-great-grandchild. She was
predeceased by her beloved husband, Nigel, and
her cherished daughter, Caroline (Paul).

Doris will be remembered for her quick wit,
infectious laughter, and deep love for her
family. She was a lively presence-whether
dancing to her favourite music, teasing those
she adored, or serving up her legendary salad
dressing. Her home was always open to those
in need, and her heart was even bigger than
her fiery spirit.

She will be dearly missed but forever
celebrated in the stories, laughter, and love she
leaves behind.

In accordance with Doris’s wishes, no funeral
service will be held.We invite you to honour her
memory through your personal remembrances
and reflections. The family appreciates your
love and support during this time.
