It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Germaine Newton, affectionately known as Gerry, who passed away at the age of 85 on September 3, 2024, at South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Born in Vancouver, BC, on September 13, 1938, and raised in Wells, BC, Gerry lived a life full of love, family, and accomplishments.
Gerry married the love of her life, Lloyd Smith Newton, on April 5, 1957. Together, they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage until Lloyd’s passing in 2022. During their life together, they built not only a family but also a legacy through their entrepreneurial spirit. Gerry and Lloyd successfully founded Newton’s Fine Dry Cleaning and Carnmoney Golf Course, making a lasting impact on their community.
A devoted mother, Gerry is survived by her five daughters: Catherine, Margaret, Naomi, Nicole, Colleen, Marie (predeceased). Her legacy continues through her 26 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and cherished. Gerry was also a loving sister to her siblings, Jackie, Colleen, Alec, Leo, Greg, Bernice, Anne and Malcolm (predeceased)
Gerry was a woman of many talents and passions. She had an eye for business but also a heart for creativity. A talented artist, she loved painting and expressing herself through her work. She enjoyed golf, skiing, gardening, and sewing, and she delighted in bringing her family together for dinners and special occasions. Her generosity, warmth, and unwavering presence touched the lives of her children and grandchildren. Whether it was a phone call, cheering at a sporting event, or comforting a loved one at a hospital bedside, Gerry was always there when her family needed her most.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A funeral service to celebrate Gerry’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter[1]day Saints (384 Bannister Dr, Okotoks, AB) on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 3:30 p.m.
