September 29, 1941 - August 21, 2024

Viv passed away peacefully on August 21st surrounded by her loving family.

She spent her early years on the farm in Semans, Saskatchewan and moved to Regina for high school. She received her nursing diploma from the University of Saskatchewan where she met the love of her life, Bill. After getting married in 1963, she moved to the family farm at Rosebud, Alberta which is where they had their four children. Viv worked hard – raising children, supporting the activities of the farm and participating in numerous community events. Viv was an exceptional nurse, enjoying a 30-year career at the Drumheller Hospital. Her caring and kind-hearted nature touched lives everywhere she lived, including Strathmore and Okotoks in her retirement years.

There was nothing more important to her than family and keeping these bonds strong. She had unconditional love for all of us, watching her grandchildren’s events and supporting them in pursuing post-secondary education. Viv highly valued education, leading by example and completing her Degree in Nursing when she was 51.

Lot of laughs were shared over the years during skiing and camping trips. She was fortunate to experience many travels around the world with family and friends. She loved drinking tea, playing games and became an avid Blue Jays fan in later years.

Viv was an excellent mom and grandma, instilling values of honesty, integrity and selflessness. Viv felt most fulfilled when she was serving others, and this remained important to her until her final day.

She is survived by her children Darryl (Sue), Bev (Cal), Janet (Scott) and Shelley (Paul). Viv took particular joy in her grandchildren Brittany (Josh), Lauren (James), Toby, Samantha, Adelle, Calvin and her great granddaughter Cammie; her siblings Wally, Marvis, James (Dolores) and Brian (Bernice) and sisters- in laws Mary, Helen, Jean and Ann (John). She was predeceased by her husband Bill, sister Eleanor, brothers and sisters in law.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Viv and her family thank the Medical Assistance in Dying program for their compassionate care.
