Dear Editor,
In this day and age, I am of the opinion that criminal record checks should be required of candidates running for office; in particular, vulnerable sector checks.
After attending an official municipal candidates training session in Red Deer a number of years ago, the trainer jokingly said, "You can run even if you are a pedophile." At the time I didn't think it was an appropriate joke, but the more I thought about it, the more I think criminal checks are needed.
I can only imagine those voices who protest such a requirement may actually have something to hide.
