Members at the Okotoks and District Seniors Centre were delighted to have Premier Alison Redford drop in for a visit on Feb. 2.
While there was no political conversation she really seemed to relax by trying floor curling and snooker with the guys. She did manage to get to all the members and shake hands. In fact, her assistants were concerned she was running behind in a busy day.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of all organizations so we were happy to meet a new member, Beryl Spear, who will take over the running of our library.
The annual meeting was held and we were excited to have Al Jenkins be our president for the next two years. He served on the board for the last two years and the results were very good so we expect that to continue.
The financial picture is very good going into the next year and we can report an increase in membership at the same time.
A friend sent this note: A group of seniors were travelling by bus on a tour of Holland. They stopped at a cheese farm and a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explained that goat milk was used. She showed the group a lovely hillside where many goats were grazing. She explained these were older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produced. She then asked what we do with old goats in our country. The answer came back, “We send them on bus tours.”
The board put out a survey for members to fill out about activities — how they are perceived and what other things you would like to see the club do. If you didn’t get one please talk to Jackie in the office to get one.
Once again, we were happy to have the premier visit and our doors are always open to other dignitaries who would like to see what we are about.
