Indigenous bison hunt 'entirely likely' to continue in future years in Banff

Indigenous bison hunt 'entirely likely' to continue in future years in Banff

They are not tame, they are wild animals, and they are roaming a large swathe of the former/panther region. They are no longer in a pen. All the same, I still think the hunt is bad for lots of other reasons.

I strongly dislike the idea of giving certain people special rights and privileges based on their racial heritage. I don't like the idea of a bison hunt in the national park where we are investing lots of money, effort and time into reintroducing these animals, and when it's predicated on race it's just wrong on every level. I hope race-based hunting of bison in the national parks is stopped.

The road IS open to everyone. People have rights, cars don't. This is a dishonest argument. Does Mark want to cancel the Banff Marathon as it closes roads to vehicle access for a running experience? The sense of unlimited entitlement is astounding. Not a care in the world for the safety of people or animals. He criticizes a proposed expansion of road being closed for roughly 3 months a year as "wanting it all", yet just a few sentences earlier he states he wants it open for vehicles "all year". The hypocrisy...

Rocky mountain outlook, why are you even posting this? There is no substance at all. This is a person complaining and making claims with no evidence, numbers, or facts. I'm not taking sides, but what is the value in this post? Instead, you could have presented numbers, policies, names and more information that's essential to this conversation. This does nothing to further the conversation and uses divisive language which fosters even more "us vs them" feelings toward Parks Canada. Maybe hold a debate? There has to be a more coherent way to discuss these issues than this.

"Buckle up and hold on for some facts" - proceeds to dump a bunch of opinions on everybody. As for parks priorities, conservation is worsened by more vehicles and people in a wild area, saying it's a flawed ideology is a ridiculous statement. Connecting Canadians and visitor experience is heightened when people aren't in their cars. Accessibility, diversity and inclusion are all arguable points with how this allows individuals to experience thenparkway without the constant danger of vehicles and a unique experience.

As for the amount of Canadians that ride a bicycle every week that's irrelevant as this isn't a daily commute. 197km of bike paths is not much and many riders can do that in one single day. 97% of the park is wilderness has nothing to do with paved bike trails.

Lastly, saying words like draconian and erratic, or implying that because of 8-8 closures for 3 months of the year to protect wildlife is proof that parks will take away the parkway forever is dishonest.

Mark thinks no carson the parkway is discrimination, larceny and a threat to the environment🤣. Seriously, just park your car and go for a walk. Sidenote, have you ever seen a bearjam on the highway? More traffic means more people around the bear, cars make people comfortable in going closer and can even run over the bear. Even the garbage from more vehicles is bad for the bears. I can some up Mark's seven paragraphs in one sentence; Mark doesn't like cyclists.

Ok, so what about the 9 months of the 12 month year where it is open to cars? Seems like that's plenty of time to go for a picnic. I truly wish your son is able to experience the carless parkway somehow as it's a very pleasant time.

Landan, you say the petition was about solving other problems associated with the ped zone, yet the petition didn't address any of these secondary issues as it simply aimed to end it entirely. You then go on to say things like "To say that nobody will come to Banff because there isn’t a pedestrian zone is a silly" IS SILLY. Nobody is saying that. Complete strawman. You follow up with "I am tired of our mayor and council making decisions to help businesses make more money and listen to people who don’t live here and make tourists happy with our tax money." Yet earlier you state "Nobody in town, as far as I know, dislikes the pedestrian zone". So which is it, is the ped zone catereing to locals who enjoy it or businesses grabbing cash? Lastly you say "start looking at the big picture instead of thinking about yourself" which is peak non-answer and a disingenuous argument.

If you care about traffic, write about traffic. If you want to fix parking, write about parking.
