Going to the dentist shouldn’t cause anxiety. “We want to provide as pleasant an experience as possible at the dentist,” says Dr. Jennilee Jamison, owner and principal dentist at Hometown Dental, “because we know it’s not most people’s favourite place to go!”
The team at Hometown Dental puts adults and children at ease from the start. Their focus is on technology that lets their patients have better and more enjoyable experiences. Dr. Jamison is proud of staying on top of the changes in technology and Hometown Dental is now invested in being a high-tech clinic that can do everything from cleaning teeth to improving sleep or letting you test drive a whole new smile!
There are three types of technology that Hometown Dental uses that are essential to making things easier. Restorative dentistry addresses health, functional, and cosmetic issues efficiently with the CEREC system. Patients can watch while their tooth is digitally scanned and a crown is designed and milled, ready to be inserted at the same appointment. With 3D printing, whatever is needed can be prepared right away. Another investment has been in the Cone-Beam CT, a 3D X-ray that allows the dentist to see more and get more necessary information to help plan bigger treatments like root canals, wisdom teeth extractions and implants.
Lasers are also essential, and the office has two of them.
“The treatments that we can offer with our lasers are different than most offices,” says Dr. Jamison, “including snore treatment, laser facials, and anaesthetic-free dentistry for children and adults.” The SOLEA laser treats cavities, soft tissue lesions, and even snoring. The DEKA laser is cosmetic and can treat fine lines and wrinkles.
Hometown Dental is also very involved in the community, sponsoring and supporting local charities and sports teams. The office supports local minor hockey, high school football, minor league softball, the Okotoks Dawgs, and the Okotoks Oilers, as well as local charity golf tournaments and other events that are an important part of the Okotoks culture and community.
Dr. Jamison believes that this has been an important factor to their success. “Supporting the community has always been important to me and in turn, the community has supported me back,” she says.
One of the biggest wins for the Hometown Dental team is knowing that they have made going to the dentist a much better experience for kids, so that they do not develop a fear of the dentist.
This year has been a big one for Hometown Dental. The clinic has been growing a great deal since it opened in 2016, and they have recently expanded their offices into the space next door and added two more dentists and a massage therapist.
What’s coming up next? “We are going to continue growing and adding to the Hometown Dental family so that we can continue to best serve the Foothills area,” says Dr. Jamison.
