A dispensary suffered an unfortunate incident Friday morning.
Eco Green Leaf Bar, a licensed cannabis retailer operating in Black Diamond since 2020, was robbed at approximately 5:51 a.m. by a burglar who rammed a truck into the store before taking off with goods, according to the owner.
"Somebody came here and he tried to unlock the door," said owner Sanjeev Kapila. "He couldn't. Then he smashed the glass of the door, and then he saw there's another hurdle, a grill. Then he tried to open that and he couldn't get in.
"Then what happened is he just backed up a truck. He went through the windows and everything smashed."
The perpetrator was gone before Kapila or police arrived, he said.
"He drove through," continued Kapila. "I got a call from my alarm company and they told me that this happened."
Kapila says "some inventory" was stolen, but he was unable to assess the exact amount, as a customer appreciation barbecue was set to be held that day.
"Every year we do it," said Kapila on the barbecue, which he refused to cancel following the robbery. "We had a big plan for this."
Kapila says that in the four years he has owned the dispensary, it has never been robbed.
The business, located at 402 Centre Ave W, will remain closed until further notice.
"We will have to go to AGLC (Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis) and talk to them what they want us to do," said Kapila. "As soon as they give us the green signal, we'll open it immediately."
