Diamond Valley Coun. Veronica Kloiber resigned from council effective July 18.

A long-serving Diamond Valley councillor has resigned.

Coun. Veronica Kloiber submitted a letter of resignation to the Town's CAO that takes effect July 18, the Town of Diamond Valley said in a media release.

Kloiber will be moving out of town to pursue professional and personal opportunities, making her ineligible to hold office in Diamond Valley, the release said.

"Unfortunately, the timing isn’t ideal for the people of Diamond Valley, but I have to do right by my family first,” Kloiber said. “A move to a new community is what is needed.”

First elected to Black Diamond council in 2017, Kloiber was re-elected in 2021 and again in 2022, when she joined the first Diamond Valley council.

“I have learned so much in my time on council and the lessons and friendships I’ve made will not soon be forgotten,” she said. “It has been an honour to serve as an elected official for the residents of Black Diamond and Diamond Valley.”

Mayor Barry Crane thanked Kloiber on behalf of council for her service to the community.

“Her fresh perspective and commitment to excellence have been invaluable to our work as a council,” Crane said. “We wish her every success as she embarks on the next chapter of her career and personal pursuits.”

In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, a byelection is not required as the next general election is less than 18 months away, the Town said.

Council will continue to operate with one mayor and five councillors until the general election in October 2025.
