A local dispensary has officially opened its doors again after being the victim of an unusual robbery.
Eco Green Leaf Bar, a licensed cannabis retailer operating in Black Diamond since 2020, was robbed on the morning of July 26 by a burglar who rammed a truck into the store before taking off with goods, according to the owner.
"Somebody came here and he tried to unlock the door," said owner Sanjeev Kapila on July 26 after the incident. "He couldn't. Then he smashed the glass of the door, and then he saw there's another hurdle, a grill. Then he tried to open that and he couldn't get in.
"Then what happened is he just backed up a truck. He went through the windows and everything smashed."
The perpetrator was gone before Kapila or police arrived to the store, he said.
Turner Valley RCMP confirmed their investigation is ongoing, and were unable to provide any further details.
Kapila said "some inventory" was stolen and is still working to assess the amount taken.
He added that this is the first time he has been robbed in the four years he has owned the dispensary or the 11 years he has owned the neighbouring Eco Liquor.
In light of the robbery, the store has installed a stainless steel wall to the front of the building for the time being.
The official re-opening date was yesterday, July 31.
Eco Green Leaf Bar is located at 402 Centre Ave W, Diamond Valley.
