Firefighters tackle weekend grass fire near Diamond Valley

Firefighters responded to a grass fire on 176 Street West on June 1.

Diamond Valley’s fire department says dry conditions persist in the Foothills, and fires can spread quickly even with the recent rain.

On June 1, just after 5 p.m., Diamond Valley Fire Rescue (DVFR) responded to a grass fire on 176 Street West.

“The large fire could be seen from multiple locations surrounding Diamond Valley,” DVFR said in a press release.

Crews aggressively attacked the fire to slow its growth until additional resources could get to the scene, DVFR said.

In addition to crews from Diamond Valley, firefighters from Foothills Fire and Okotoks Fire & Rescue responded.

DVFR said it took about two hours to put the fire out.

“Even with the recent rain, conditions remain dry and fires can move quickly, especially with the recent higher winds,” DVFR said.

There were no injuries, and no structures were damaged during the blaze.

“Always exercise caution with conducting any burns on your property and have a water source nearby,” DVFR said.
