60th annual Millarville Flower Festival is a blooming tradition

The scenic community of Millarville is set to come alive with vibrant colors and fragrant blossoms as the Millarville Flower Festival returns for its 60th annual celebration.

The scenic community of Millarville is set to come alive with vibrant colours and fragrant blossoms as the Millarville Flower Festival returns for its 60th annual celebration next month.

Organized by the Christ Church Ladies Guild, the Millarville Flower Festival will take place on July 13 and 14 at the historic church on Highway 549.

Known for its charming vertical log structure, the Christ Church provides a picturesque backdrop for the festival's stunning floral displays. Visitors are invited to come by and visit the blossoming flower arrangements at any time throughout the two-day festival.

On Saturday, July 13, the festival hosts a tea from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will be treated to freshly brewed tea, accompanied by scones served with strawberry jam and whipped cream. This experience offers a touch of English tradition, at the cost of $8 per adult and $4 for any child under six.

Sunday’s schedule features a special church service at 10:30 a.m., open to all who wish to attend. Visitors are invited to take a seat in the pews, enjoy the serenity and pay their respects.

In keeping with a longstanding tradition, the festival welcomes contributions from the community. Residents are encouraged to bring planters or cut flowers on Friday night, which will be placed on display and later used to decorate gravesites.

“People bring arrangements, beautiful arrangements and we put those in the church and they all have a name on them,” said Cathie Scatterty, president of Christ Church Ladies Guild.

These floral tributes, often made in memory of loved ones, create a poignant connection between the past and the present, filling the churchyard with heartfelt sentiments and beautiful blooms.

The annual Millarville Flower Festival owes its origins to Flo King, a member of the Christ Church and the Ladies Guild, who was inspired by a flower festival she attended in England in 1962. King’s vision has now blossomed into a beloved community event that has thrived for six decades, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

However, the festival is more than just a display of flowers — it’s a celebration of community, heritage and the beauty of nature. Whether you come to admire the arrangements, participate in the tea or simply to find a quiet moment in the church, the Millarville Flower Festival offers something special for everyone.
