An event just for the girls is coming up at the Turner Valley Legion next weekend.
The Spring Women’s Wellness Day, hosted by the Turner Valley Legion Ladies Auxiliary #78, will be held at the Legion on Saturday, April 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Auxiliary president Judy Cheesman said it’s a new idea to raise money for the Legion in Diamond Valley.
The event features vendors that will offer on-site services such as chair massages, tarot and angel card readings, mini facials, wine tasting, bra fittings, permanent jewellery and a hat bar, Cheesman said.
“We just thought we would try and do something a little bit different and do a bit of a fundraiser for the Legion,” she said.
A hat bar and permanent jewellery are both new to Cheesman, she said.
The hat bar will have flat-brimmed or trucker hats for sale that can be decorated to taste.
“You can bedazzle them, or whatever you want to put on them,” Cheesman said. “It’s something that’s really new.”
Permanent jewellery is usually a bracelet, anklet or necklace that doesn’t have a traditional clasp.
The jewellery is micro-welded together and intended to be worn all the time.
Specialty drinks, like sangria or bellinis, will be available and the Legion’s kitchen will be open.
Entry is by donation, and there is a cost for services provided by the vendors.
There will be a 50/50 raffle and door prizes, and all money raised will go back to the Legion for a new outdoor green space near the building.
“It’s something different for the Legion,” Cheesman said, “with a little bit of food and some drinks.”
The auxiliary raises money to support the Legion, and the impetus for a wellness day grew out of an idea hatched by Cheesman's daughter.
“I'm just hoping it's going to bring a different genre into the Legion,” Cheesman said. “I think it’s going to be kind of fun.”
