Property tax bills arrive in Diamond Valley with 5% hike

A 12 per cent increase in the provincial education requisition means that zero tax hike approved last fall is out the window.

Property tax notices are in the mail in Diamond Valley.

The Town announced this week that tax bills, which carry a five per cent increase this year, are due by Aug. 15.

A 12 per cent penalty will be applied on overdue balances as of Aug. 16.

Diamond Valley council passed its 2024 operating budget last December with a zero per cent tax increase, although a subsequent 12 per cent increase in the provincial education requisition has pushed tax bills higher.

The Town said that 27 cents out of every dollar collected through property taxes goes to the Province for education.

Taxpayers on an installment plan will see their monthly charge adjusted to reflect the 2024 bill starting with the July 4 payment.

Those who didn’t receive a tax notice or who have questions about their bill are encouraged to reach out to the Town office at 403-933-4348.
