Runners from across Alberta gathered in Diamond Valley to kick off the Millarville "Run To The Farmers' Market" Half Marathon and COBS Cinnamon Bun Run 8-Miler.

The 21.1-km route went through the Black Diamond and Turner Valley communities in Diamond Valley, then went along 192 Street towards the Millarville Racetrack — just in time for the opening day of the Millarville Farmers' Market.

The eleventh annual event, which had 628 runners take part in total, saw the largest participation in the run's history.

Ben Marsh crossed the line first in the half marathon with a time of 1:18.05, narrowly beating second-place Joel Neumann who finished with 1:18.52 — in last year's run, Marsh finished second and Neumann first.

Josh Inhaber and Jason Gurevitch finished first in the relay under the "Matzah Boltz" moniker, while the 8-mile run saw Adam Doxtator take the first-place title.

Jared Armstrong was the first bunner to cross the line as part of the bun run, in which participants enjoyed cinnamon buns during the 8-mile run.

This year's event had 321 runners in the half marathon, 129 in the 8-mile run, and 104 in the bun run, with 37 teams of two taking part in the relay.

Official results are available here.

Proceeds from the event went towards the Millarville Racing and Agricultural Society, which operates the Millarville Racetrack.

The Millarville Farmers' Market, now in its 42nd year, runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until October 12.
