From the gas tank to the furnace, consumer carbon charge disappears

The levy had previously been set at $80 per tonne, an amount that has increased yearly since the charge was first imposed in 2019.

CALGARY — Consumers are paying a new price on their carbon emissions starting today — $0.

The levy had previously been set at $80 per tonne, an amount that has increased yearly since the charge was first imposed in 2019.

That had most recently equated to 17.6 cents on each litre of gasoline and roughly $4 for each gigajoule of natural gas burned for home heating.

One of Prime Minister Mark Carney's first actions when he took office last month was to do away with the consumer carbon charge.

The drop should be reflected quickly at the gasoline pumps, though it may be offset by swings in crude prices or refinery downtime.

The final Canada Carbon Rebate is to be paid starting April 22 for those who file their 2024 tax returns before Wednesday. For those filing after that date, the rebate will be sent after their returns are assessed.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 1, 2025.

So where is the decrease at the pumps. In Calgary they jacked the price 20 cents since carney dropped the tax but the wholesale price hasn't changed. Just like when the province dropped the fuel tax. Oil companies dropped about 5 cents when the provincial tax was 13 cents but jacked it up in full when the tax was reinstated. Where is the convoy crowd against the oil company greed.

So whoever downvoted, likely a convoyer who parked on the side of the highway by Lacombe, what's wrong with you. Get your redneck buddies, if you have any, and get out there and protest the greed. No wonder a corrupt, traitorous, nutcase like smith gets voted in this province. Get your berries out of your wife's purse and reply so I can slam you directly.

So - at least so far, no drop in price at the pumps (or no discernible drop after the pump price increases SINCE the decision was made by Prime Minister Carney), and now no rebate either for Albertans (who received the highest rebate in the country by far) – going to miss that roughly $1,700 per year.

The result of this is simply another lose-lose-lose move (no lower prices, no rebate, and with even less done to address Climate Change) via "Conservative" politicking.

Brilliant (insert eye roll), as usual ...

So looking at pump prices across the province, after carbon tax removal, they are about the same as when Carney canceled the tax. Is anyone ok with giving your carbon tax rebate to the oil companies.

We saved $30.00 fueling up this morning. Thanks Mr Poilievre, for forcing the liberals hand.

Wow, stunned is stunned. Little PP is soon to be a has been. Right around the end of the month.
How big a tank do you have to save $30. That math works out to about 200 litres. My diesel truck is only 132. Sounds like a bit of a fib here
