COBS Bread in Okotoks’ Centennial Village is once again rising to the challenge in support of the Sheep River Health Trust.

From March 8 to April 4, customers can add a donation of any amount to their purchase at the till.

After a month-long campaign to raise funds at the till, Cobs will host ‘Dough-Nation Day’ on Saturday, April 5 where $2 from the sale of every pack of hot cross buns goes to the trust.

‘Dough-Nation Day’ is also a celebration of the community’s efforts to support health and wellness locally. Sheep River Health Trust representatives will be at the Southridge Drive bakery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to speak with customers about where their donation dollars go and the greater impact on health and wellness in the community.

This is the second year that COBS Bread is fundraising for the Sheep River Health Trust. Last year, with the help of customers, it raised over $3,300, funds that were used to purchase a slit lamp for Oilfields General Hospital.

A slit lamp is a specialized microscope used in the emergency room to examine the eye's structures. Doctors can diagnose various eye conditions, remove foreign objects and assess eye injuries.

The slit lamp's ability to provide a detailed examination of the eye is vital in managing eye-related emergencies. Having this equipment in the Foothills saves residents precious treatment time that is otherwise used to travel to Calgary for help.

The Sheep River Health Trust is dedicated to supporting health services and wellness programs along with purchasing medical equipment for the Foothills community. The trust is a registered charity that supports organizations and residents in Longview, Diamond Valley, Millarville, DeWinton, Okotoks and the surrounding rural area.
