Guests load up plates of Thanksgiving favourites during last year's Davisburg Turkey Supper.

Supper and more is on the menu at a popular autumn event in the Foothills.

Davisburg's 15th annual Turkey Supper is set for Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Davisburg Community Hall, located about 15 minutes northeast of Okotoks.

Organizer Alandra Corrigan said the event has grown in the last decade and a half.

"It's an event that really started out with the community doing it all ourselves,” Corrigan said. "We'd give everybody a turkey, they'd go home and cook it in their oven, and then bring it back."

Each year, organizers prepare for 700 guests, and the event regularly sells out. Live entertainment, a silent auction and 50/50 raffle, and pie for dessert or to take home are staples of the annual gathering.

In the days leading up to the meal, volunteers will be busy baking 300 pies.

“The pies are a big deal,” Corrigan said. “That’s something that people really look forward to.”

Hansel and Gretel Catering cook the meal, and numerous businesses donate items to the silent auction. With great support from local businesses, about 70 items are typically up for auction, Corrigan said.

For the last few years, take-home meals were available but this year the supper is returning to dine-in only.

“All of the tickets will be for people to come, eat, stay, enjoy the entertainment and enjoy the auction,” Corrigan said.

Supper tickets are available on eventbrite.ca and are $30 for adults, $15 for kids and free for those six and under.

“That gives you your full turkey meal, plus a slice of pie and ice cream,” she said.

A kids' zone will have an obstacle course set up by members of the Foothills Fire Department.

Money raised helps support the community association and its year-round programs.
