A three-day hearing for a proposed biodigester in Foothills County has been delayed until the new year.
Last December, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas issued approval to Rimrock Renewables for a waste management facility, or biodigester, at the Rimrock Feeders feedlot west of High River. The proposed facility would use feedlot and other types of waste to make renewable natural gas.
A group of people opposed to the project appealed, and were scheduled to make their case before the Environmental Appeals Board (EAB) during a hearing from Nov. 26 to 28.
However, the board granted a request from the appellants to reschedule. The EAB said that with the number of witnesses being called, more than three days will be needed for the hearing.
The new dates haven’t been confirmed, but the hearing will take place in January over four or five days, instead of the three days it was originally scheduled for, the EAB said.
The appeal hearing is being held after a mediation held several months after the approval, between area residents and Rimrock Renewables, failed to reach an agreement.
