Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools said its data is secure after an IT breach impacted school boards in Alberta and across North America.

PowerSchool, a cloud-based information system used in Canada and around the world, recently told affected school boards that a security breach took place when some student information system data was accessed without authorization.

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools uses the impacted system, but said its data is secure and the breach has been repaired.

CTR said it is in communication with the company and has been told no data has been made public.

According to PowerSchool, some student information system demographic data was accessed in the breach, and a third-party cyber security response team is investigating the incident.

Foothills School Division (FSD) said it does not use PowerSchool for its student information system and has not been affected by the breach.

FSD uses PowerSchool platforms for other applications, but they were not affected by the breach, the division said.
