The cold snap hitting most of Alberta has prompted an extreme cold warning for Sunday evening.
Environment Canada has issued a warning for large parts of southern and central Alberta with areas southeast of Calgary expected to see wind chill temperatures between -40 and -45 in the overnight hours from Sunday evening into early morning Monday.
Parts of Foothills County, including Blackie, Gladys and areas east of Davisburg, are included in the warning.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
In Okotoks, overnight temperatures are expected to dip to -25 C and hit a wind chill of -30 C with a risk of frostbite.
The good news is the frigid conditions are expected to be gone in short order.
Another significant warming trend is on the way with a high of -2 C on Monday and temperatures hovering around 1 C as a high over the following three days.
