Foothills County declared a Fire Ban on July 23.

A fire ban has been declared in Foothills County.

The fire ban was declared on July 23 in response to rising fire danger due to hot and windy conditions, says a notice on Foothills County’s website.

“Conditions are deteriorating rapidly, increasing the risk of wildfires in a time when resources are already limited provincially,” the notice says.

No fire restrictions are in effect in Okotoks, High River or Diamond Valley.

The Foothills County ban includes all open fires, including burning barrels and campfires.

Also included in the ban are:

  • Fireworks
  • Exploding targets
  • Burns that require a permit

The ban does not apply to:

  • Internal household fireplaces, camp stoves, liquid fuel barbecues (propane and natural gas), propane fire pits and flame tables.
  • Fires contained in industrial facilities or on industrial sites approved by the Fire Chief.

All open fires must be extinguished, and any open burning and fireworks permits are cancelled.

The fire ban will be in effect until all areas of the County get significant rainfall, according to the County.
