A traffic circle on Dunbow Road is closer to reality.
Foothills County is moving ahead with a roundabout at the intersection of Dunbow Road and Pine Creek Road/2 Street East, at the entrance to a commercial area and the Heritage Pointe Fire Hall.
During its meeting on Jan. 22, council said engineering and detailed design work for the project can begin.
Estimates show that a roundabout would handle traffic volume on Dunbow Road for the next 25 years, and it could be expanded if lanes are added in the future, staff said.
Building a roundabout was found to be a better option than traffic lights at the intersection.
The County said development levies will fund engineering work and it has applied to the Province for construction funding, but there is no word on when construction could begin.
During the meeting, County staff said the twinning of Dunbow Road likely wouldn’t happen unless an overpass was built at Dunbow and Macleod Trail (Highway 2A).
