A public hearing for a large-scale residential development proposal near DeWinton is being held tomorrow.
The hearing for the Foothills Landing Area Structure Plan begins at 9 a.m. on Sept. 24 at the Foothills County Administration Office, 309 Macleod Trail, High River.
The Foothills Landing ASP lays out land use and development concepts for a mixed-use community near the junction of highways 2 and 2A between Okotoks and Calgary.
The community would consist of around 2,100 residential units on about 470 acres.
With an average household size of 2.7 people, developers anticipate that about 5,700 people could live in the community.
Various housing types are proposed, including single-family, semi-detached and attached, and low-rise multi-family buildings not taller than three storeys.
Density will range from about three to five units per acre in the low-density areas and from eight to 21 in the high-density areas. The developer says construction of the higher density areas will likely occur in later phases.
Plans for commercial development call for mixed use space, with retail or other businesses below and residences above, along with commercial areas and a rural employment area.
Other land will be set aside for a high school with athletic fields, community reserve and open spaces.
