Recognizing the need for continued early learning in the DeWinton area, Foothills School Division has announced that a junior kindergarten program will open this September at Heritage Heights School.
To register for the 2024-2025 school year, children must be four years old as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Children who turn three years of age by the end of December of the same school year and have been assessed with severe delays in development, including speech, may be eligible for two years of junior kindergarten programming.
"We acknowledge the importance of prioritizing early learning in the DeWinton area and are thrilled to announce the introduction of our Junior Kindergarten program at Heritage Heights this coming fall,” said Dinah Van Donzel, director of student learning (JK-6) for the Foothills School Division.
“The inclusion of our young learners in the Heritage Heights school environment promises to be a valuable addition, enhancing the already amazing school culture."
“We are thrilled to welcome these little learners to our brand-new junior kindergarten classroom at Heritage Heights,” added principal Glenn Gibson.
Junior kindergarten with Foothills School Division is regulated under the Education Act, taught by certificated early childhood educators and runs from September to June.
The program uses the Curriculum Framework for Early Learning and Child Care in Alberta, which guides decisions made by early childhood educators and includes goals for the development of daily routines, learning experiences and environments, and interactions with each child and family.
