Highwood NDP introduces candidate

Okotoks resident Jessica Hallam will represent the Highwood NDP as a candidate in the upcoming provincial election.

The Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) has a candidate in the Highwood riding.

Okotoks resident Jessica Hallam was acclaimed on April 29 as the party’s candidate in the upcoming provincial election at a nomination meeting at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club.

In a statement, the Highwood NDP Constituency Association said Hallam has been shocked and concerned with a number of government policies, especially around health care and education.

"We in Highwood deserve somebody to represent the Alberta NDP who lives here and understands the issues and cares about the area.” said Hallam, in an interview before the nomination.

The nomination comes days before a general election is expected to be called, signaling the start of a four-week campaign before the expected May 29 provincial election.

Running against Hallam, United Conservative Party candidate RJ Sigurdson is seeking his second term as MLA for the Highwood riding.

No other parties had announced candidates in the riding as of April 28.
