A glorious summer long weekend is almost upon us, which means it’s a great time to check out some local events. Here are a few to add to your long weekend calendar:
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
The Okotoks BMX Club hosts Friday Night Lights on Friday, July 29 at its track at the corner of North Railway Street and 32nd Street East.
Gates drop at 8 p.m. and spectators are welcome to sit in the bleachers and cheer on the racers.
There will be Strider races before the gates drop and the evening will also feature a whip contest.
There will also be food trucks and a 50/50 raffle.

PICKLE PALOOZA
Granary Road will be hosting its first-ever Pickle Palooza July 30 and 31.
The event at the Foothills County farm market will feature delicious pickles across the vendors, both sweet and savoury, as well as a number of fun activities. There will be hidden pickle and pickle eating contests, a brine chugging challenge, a pickling class and more.

AL CLASSICO
Another edition of Al Classico takes place on Saturday, July 30 at 4 p.m. at ATCO Field when Cavalry FC take on FC Edmonton in Canadian Premier League action.
It’s the third of four meetings on the season between the two clubs as they compete for the Wildrose Cup. Cavalry has had the Eddies’ number so far this year, winning 3-0 on the road May 6 and 3-1 at home June 26.

WEAR PINK TO THE PARK
The Okotoks Dawgs’ Wear Pink to the Park Game, an annual fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, is being held on Sunday, July 31 at 2:05 p.m.
A tradition that has raised over $400,000 since launching in 2007, the event sees Dawgs players take the field in pink jerseys, which are auctioned off following the game.
Wear Pink to the Park Game will see the Dawgs take on the Lethbridge Bulls at Seaman Stadium.
The Dawgs also play on Friday, July 29 (7:05 p.m. against Edmonton Prospects) and have two games on Saturday, July 30 (2:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. against Lethbridge).

NOOKS AND CRANNIES FESTIVAL
The Nooks and Crannies Festival of Forgotten Art continues to be on display throughout downtown Okotoks.
With the aim of repurposing materials and animating forgotten spaces, 15 artists have created projects for the fourth installation of the festival. The artwork will be on view until Aug. 27.
The festival also features a scavenger hunt as the artist statement display signs at each piece will have a special symbol. Find all the symbols and return your filled out clue sheet to the Okotoks Art Gallery by Aug. 31 for a chance to win a prize.
