The Town of Okotoks says that collective efforts in using water wisely have helped to keep reservoir levels stable, eliminating the need to implement further outdoor watering restrictions.
The Town issued a press release on July 18 to thank residents for their exceptional commitment to water conservation so far this summer.
“As temperatures are forecasted to be above 30 degrees over the next seven days, we’re asking residents and businesses to continue their excellent outdoor watering practices and follow the outdoor watering schedule,” said Davey Robertson, water manager for the Town of Okotoks.
“If we stick to the schedule and avoid watering on weekends, we should be able to stay at stage one throughout the summer.”
The latest version of the outdoor watering schedule was approved by council in March to further increase water conservation efforts. The main changes include watering on weekdays only and reduced daily watering time by one hour.
The Town said these changes have helped to reduce peak demand (on weekends) on the water system, while still providing enough watering hours to keep lawns healthy.
