Two Okotoks youngsters have been biking to help beat childhood cancer for several years now.
Kolten and Keegan Davis, seven and six respectively, have been pedalling all over Okotoks throughout August as part of the nationwide Great Cycle Challenge to combat childhood cancer.
The youngsters' involvement in the campaign began four years ago, with three-year-old Kolten starting the ride in 2020 and enlisting his brother the following year.
"He was the one that taught his little brother how to ride a two-wheeler, not us parents," said Tasha Davis, the boys' mother. "It was 100 per cent him.
"Fast forward five years later and it's crazy to see that we're still going strong, still pedalling."
The fundraiser — which has raised over $52,000 and counting over the last five years — is in honour of Kolton Byerley, an Okotoks teen diagnosed with a brain tumour in the spring of last year.
"We are just hoping to give him some sunshine and know that we are there behind him and supporting him in the ways that we know how," said Davis.
The boys have ridden 1,626 kilometres over the course of the five-year campaign. This year's series of excursions culminated in a ride of epic proportions, with fellow youngsters and Bikers Are Buddies tagging along for a parade escorted by RCMP and Okotoks Fire & Rescue vehicles on Aug. 29.
The Davis brothers will continue riding their bikes throughout Okotoks until the end of August, with donations still being collected throughout this month and September.
"They ride in rain and smoke and hot, hot days, and it's pretty cool to follow behind and watch their determination," said the boys' mother.
