An employee at Home Depot Okotoks has tested positive for COVID-19.
The company stated on May 5 the individual had not been in-store since May 1 and is currently isolating at home.
Paul Berto, director of corporate communications for The Home Depot Canada, said the company is working closely with Alberta Health Services to take appropriate steps for the health and safety of its associates and customers.
“We’ve taken additional steps to disinfect the store with viricidal cleaner and will continue disinfecting high-touch and high-traffic areas several times a day,” said Berto in a statement to the Western Wheel. “We’re taking this very seriously and given our scale and size, we’ve been preparing for something like this. We’ve had a team in place for many weeks to look at possible COVID-19 scenarios from every angle, including this one.”
He said social distancing measures continue to be enforced in-store and the store is disinfecting areas like self-checkouts, door handles and bathrooms regularly, and signage has been posted to promote thorough handwashing.
Home Depot has also implemented paid leave and time-off policies to protect its employees who are either directly or indirectly affected by COVID-19, he said.
“Most of all, we care about supporting our associate through this, and the ongoing health and safety of our customers and associates,” said Berto.
