Pink Plate breakfast exceeds fundraising target

Okotoks teen Molly Noble raises over $3,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society at charity breakfast held in her family's backyard.

Strong community support helped an Okotoks teen almost double her fundraising goal at an event late last month to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society.

Molly Noble raised just over $3,500 through her Pink Plate Fundraiser, which was a combination charity breakfast and online auction.

The 16-year-old Foothills Composite High School student had originally hoped to raise $2,000 in honour of her Aunty Vicky, who passed away from cancer when her niece was just a year old.

Noble hosted the breakfast, with the help of family, friends and corporate sponsors, in the family’s backyard on July 29.

All money raised has been donated to the Canadian Cancer Society and will be focused on breast cancer research.

Family members have regularly taken part in CIBC Run for the Cure and Batting Against Breast Cancer, but this time around the ambitious teen wanted to do something different. She considered hosting an afternoon tea party, but eventually decided on a breakfast and auction.

Noble made the rounds of the local business community in search of food and cash donations to host the breakfast as well as items for the online auction and found merchants were very supportive.

Local businesses that provided donations included: Sobeys, Ginger Laurier, Salute, Rebel Bean, Tailgate Mercantile Co., An Honest Room, Tribal Connection, Okotoks Dawgs, Balance Physiotherapy & Massage, Mama’s Restaurant, Big Beaver Brewing and Perm Pretty Massage. Several local independent craftspeople also donated items.
