Alberta Infrastructure says a contract for the construction of a K-9 school in Okotoks could be in place early next year.

The procurement process is underway for a bundle of seven school projects across Alberta, including the École Good Shepherd replacement school in Okotoks, the Province announced on June 7.

The seven schools are part of a public-private partnership (P3) bundle. Bundling projects together makes for a more efficient construction process and provides cost savings for material purchases, the Province said.

Construction of the new schools could begin by summer 2025, the Province said, but no information was available about construction timelines for individual schools.

In total, the Province said the seven schools will house over 7,000 students.

The existing K-6 École Good Shepherd will be replaced by a K-9 school built in the D’Arcy neighbourhood.

The new school will accommodate about 900 students compared to about 650 enrolled in the existing school.

An initial design for the replacement school was unveiled at an open house last February, with about 15 per cent of the design process complete.
