The Age-Friendly Speaker Series at the Okotoks & District Seniors Club will cover a wide range of topics over the next few months.
The free series offers insightful talks on issues that matter most to seniors, from estate planning to green living to downsizing.
The series brings in expert speakers with a wealth of experience, ensuring that each session is both informative and tailored to the needs of older adults.
Registration is not required for any of the upcoming presentations.
Here’s a look at what’s on the calendar:
• Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1 to 3 p.m. – Zach Warne, a Foothills lawyer from Dixon Legal who specializes in wills and estates, will discuss setting up a power of attorney and will.
• Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1 to 4 p.m. – Learn about Alberta's utility market and utility options, practical tips to reduce your bill, guidance on what to consider before signing a utility contract, and how to access free advice and support with utility provider issues.
• Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1 to 4 p.m. – Nouman Ali, a nurse practitioner of advanced cardiology, will share important information about cardiac care, including early warning signs and when to seek support from your doctor.
• Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1 to 4 p.m. – Okotoks Fire & Rescue deputy Chief Dave Hodgins will talk about first aid for seniors. He will review important tips, including knowing when and how to get help if a life-threatening situation arises, and will also provide information on using an automated external defibrillator (AED) machine.
• Wednesday, March 12, 1 to 4 p.m. – Judy Wild from Canada Revenue Agency will answer online account questions and help people get registered.
• Wednesday, March 19, 1 to 4 p.m. – Leslie Racz, community development coordinator at Calgary Rural Primary Care Network, and Rebecca Perkins, outreach manager with Wellspring Alberta, will lead a session about cancer screening and prevention for seniors.
• Wednesday, April 9, 1 to 4 p.m. – Local realtor Julie Perry will lead a session on the real estate market and information that is relevant to seniors, including helpful tips if you are considering downsizing or transitioning out of home ownership.
• Wednesday, April 16, 1 to 4 p.m. – A representative from Destination Seniors Downsizing will lead a discussion about downsizing and what to do with your possessions when you are ready to move.
