Spruce Meadows president and CEO Linda Southern-Heathcott has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for outstanding service to Alberta, Canada and her fellow citizens.
She was one of 30,000 award recipients across the country, with her medal presented by provincial Minister of Tourism and Sport Joseph Schow on March 11.
A former professional equestrian who competed in the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, Southern-Heathcott is widely acknowledged for her public service, including sitting on a number of boards.
She was appointed chair of Travel Alberta in 2019, and serves as an honourary lieutenant colonel of the King’s Own Calgary Regiment, a role she has held since 2018.
Southern-Heathcott also received British Empire Medal in 2020 for her services to British equestrian, military and commercial interests in Alberta.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this medal,” said Southern-Heathcott, who is celebrating Spruce Meadows’ 50th anniversary this year. “I’ve never been more proud to be Albertan, and Canadian.
“I’ll continue to do all that I can to promote, and give back to, our beautiful province and country.”
The Coronation Medal commemorates the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada and is awarded to Canadians who have made significant contributions to a province, territory, region or community in Canada, or attained an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to their country.
